COOPERHATE project
The COOPERHATE project—A multidisciplinary cooperation approach to prevent and combat hate crimes and hate speech—aims to provide a comprehensive approach to the prevention, reporting, investigation, and prosecution of hate crimes and hate speech-related incidents in Portugal, focusing on:
i) provide a unique perspective on the dynamics of hatred at the national level;
ii) improve civil society and (non-)governmental actors’ understanding of the phenomena of hate speech and hate crimes;
iii) increase the detection, reporting, and assessment of both phenomena;
iv) strengthen the capacity of public authorities and civil society to prevent and respond to incidents related to (and motivated by) hate;
v) promote public awareness (and the empowerment of victims) through a multifaceted approach.
COOPERHATE aims to:
Improve the enforcement of laws regarding hate crimes and hate speech;
Ensure justice, protection, and support for victims of hate crimes and hate speech;
To enhance the capacity of civil society and public authorities to detect and address hate crimes and hate speech;
